Susan Wiley, (b 18 Apr 1957), daughter of Clark Wiley and his wife Irene, the famous case of the "feral child" called "Genie" by a few scientists, who was raised under severe conditions until she was 13 years old. She was kept isolated in a back bedroom, locked in a bed surrounded by chicken-wire at night and strapped to a potty chair by day. She couldn't walk normally, couldn't speak and had abnormal reactions, such as the inability to chew food, compulsive silence and inappropriate sexual behaviour.

South Korean arthouse film about the destruction of the environment has been attracting publicity, but for the wrong reasons. Mago, an "allegorical poem" that draws on a Korean creation myth to depict man's fall from paradise, features 825 nude actors.

"This story compares life in the paradise in Korea's mythical version of Genesis with the destruction-orientated modern life," said Mago's scriptwriter and poet Jang Kyung-ki. "The goal was to describe the pure life in paradise in the beginning of the world with pure bodies."

But it is the presence of the 825 nude amateur actors - including 100 women recruited from Seoul college campuses - which has drawn all the headlines in the run-up to the low-budget movie's release on May 24. Film nudity is still relatively rare in Korea.

"Is the movie obscenity or art? It depends on the artist's conscience," said director Kang Hyun-il.

"I am not worried. Moviegoers will be drawn to the movie out of curiosity, but they will understand the movie is real art."

Jason de Caires Taylor was born in 1974 to an English father and Guyanese mother, spending the earlier part of his life growing up in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. Educated in South East England, he graduated in 1998 from Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Art London, with a B.A.Honours in Sculpture and Ceramics. He is also a fully qualified diving instructor and underwater naturalist with over 14 years of diving experience in a variety of countries.

In May 2006 he gained international recognition for creating the world’s first underwater sculpture park in Grenada, West Indies. His underwater sculptures, designed to create artificial reefs for marine life to colonise and inhabit, embrace the transformations wrought by ecological processes. The works engage with a vision of the possibilities of a sustainable future, portraying human intervention as positive and affirmative. Drawing on the tradition of figurative imagery, the aim of Jason de Caires Taylor’s work is to address a wide-ranging audience crucial for highlighting environmental issues beyond the confines of the art world. However, fundamental to understanding his work is that it embodies the hope and optimism of a regenerative, transformative Nature.

Sally Mann’s work deals with the search and objectification of the significance of space and time, matters which she discusses in terms of their physicality or thickness. Being able to establish a concrete dialogue with her subject-matters made her trade writing for photography in the mid 70’s.
Although not the most relevant part of her work – Sally Mann thoroughly developed 19th century photographic techniques that cling to that physicality mentioned above – her career gained unprecedented projection with the 1991 series Immediate Family where her three children – Emmett, Jessie, Virginia – are pictured barely naked.

Most notorious to some of her detractors was the crude nudity of the small children which supposedly gave this pictures a suggestion of a sexual content. To others, as noticed by Noelle Oxenhandler, was some noir quality that was so disturbing about them, as in Virginia asleep (1988), where the child is pictured on the dirt ground beside a pile of burlap bags, defenceless against the unknown content of the bags, made one with them (dead, perhaps?).
This ability to capture the immense probability of Evilness, deviation and death that exists in the natural state – in children, madmen and nature – has been a watermark to her work since the 1988 At Twelve: Portraits of Young Women series till this day.

Maria de Alvear’s music is a highly original mix of Alhambra, Darmstadt and Fluxus influences. Her art is rooted in 12-tone music composing style ; minimalism ; Spanish tradition and Flamenco ; Fluxus-like performance and installations in art galeries ; spiritual, even ritualistic concerns. Apart from studying ‘Neues Musiktheater’ with Maurizio Kagel in Köln, she also studied piano with spanish composer Eduardo Pollonio, a master of spanish electroacoustic music. On several occasions during the 1990s, she visited Cherokee and Tuscarora Indians people in the US and Nenets natives in Siberia. She wrote Vagina immediately after befriending shamans of respective native tribes. Vagina is a parable about a female wolf, from childhood to adult age, her various encounters with all the creation’s animals and the strange things happening to and through her body. De Alvear: ‘Sexuality is the key to respecting nature and life’ (from 1999 german radio broadcast). This is not your ‘Vagina Monologues‘ set to contemporary music, then, nor has it to do with feminist Cora Emens’ Vagina song. The pan-sexuality championned on this work refers more to Joseph Beuys’ portative auto-mythology, and a sexuality involving all living creatures – as opposed to Wikipedia’s self-limiting, PC definition. On this recording, De Alvear delivers a very personal reading performance, as if merging 2 expressionist vocal styles: german avantgarde sprechstimme and spanish cante jondo, a particularly mournful flamenco singing style. Reading is part german, part spanish, and much preferable to the faulty english translation printed in the booklet. The orchestral accompaniement is mostly quiet and un-provocative, including some solo piano passages and a few relentlessly repeated notes.

Stelarc is an Australia based performance artist, one of the most notorious in the area of bioarts and biotechnologies.

His questioning of a static, unaltered and pure human nature led him to experiment with prosthetics and robotics since the 70’s. Between so many live and online performances, Stelarc experimented with suspensions and living tissue and muscle in an eclectic search for a new defying definition of human body in connection with the new media.

Working closely with universities as a Fellow since 1995, Stelarc is currently a Chairman in Performance Art, School of Arts, Brunel University West London, UK and a Senior Research Fellow and Visiting Artist in the MARCS Labs at the University of Western Sydney, Australia.

Desde então tem utilizado diferentes técnicas biológicas incluíndo Ressonância Magnética Funcional do cérebro para criar retratos onde a mente pode ser observada (Functional Portraits, 2002); fragmentos de ADN fluorescentes para criar micro-esculturas no núcleo de células humanas (NucleArt, 2002); esculturas feitas com proteínas (Proteic Portrait, 2002), com ADN (Inner Cloud, 2003) ou com neurónios vivos (Tree of Knowledge, 2005). O trabalho da artista tem sido apresentado internacionalmente em exposições, publicações e palestras. Eduardo Kac nasceu no Rio de Janeiro em 1962 e formou-se pela Faculdade de Comunicação Social da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. No começo dos anos 80 ele criou uma série de performances de conteúdo político e de humor em espaços públicos como a Cinelândia e a praia de Ipanema, no Rio de Janeiro, e as escadarias da Biblioteca Mário de Andrade, em São Paulo. em 1983 Kac lançou o livro de artista "Escracho" (que se encontra na coleção do Museum of Modern Art, Nova Iorque) e realizou trabalhos na rede videotexto (1985/86), precursora da Internet. Em 1983 ele inventou a holopoesia, uma nova linguagem poética, e em 1984 participou da mostra "Como Vai Você, Geração 80?," no Parque Lage. Em 1985 fez exposição individual de seus holopoemas no Museu da Imagem e do Som de São Paulo e recebeu prêmio de aquisição do Salão Nacional de Artes Plásticas, no Rio de Janeiro. Em 1986 organizou a mostra "Brazil High Tech," na Galeria de Arte do Centro Empresarial Rio, e foi artista-residente do Museu de Holografia de Nova Iorque. Em 1988 apresentou em mostra individual na Funarte, no Rio de Janeiro, seu trabalho de holografia digital. Bell has been producing work (images, films, written texts, live performances, and workshops ) on the female phallus and female ejaculation since 1989. Her residency at SymbioticA was to construct and grow tissue engineered male and female phalluses as living art objects that show the internal and external female erection (the external clitoris, the internal urethral sponge, or what has been popularized as the g-spot) as a connective integrated whole comparable in size and stature to the male sex organ.
Bell also grew a big toe as part of the project.

Bell's project, titled 'Two Phalluses and Big Toe,' in addition to displaying the structural similarity of the male and female sex organs, functions as an addendum to the philosophers Jacques Lacan and Georges Bataille’s writings on the phallus and big toe. Once in the bioreactor, the three objects merged as a neo-sex organ.

Whilst on sabbatical from York University, Canada, Bell's 3 month residency in 2004 and 2005 was funded through various funding grants, including Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

“The Bosom Ballet is a performance in which I stretch, pinch, squeeze, twist, rock, roll, and jiggle my breasts to music, usually “The Blue Danube Waltz,” under a pink spotlight. I wear opera-length black gloves and a tutu. Over the years I have also done various other styles of bosom dance. There was the Bosom Tap Dance, which I performed in a nightclub off Broadway. I glued taps all over my boobs and fingertips and amplified the sound as I tapped away. Then there was the Bosom Ballet Folklorico I did to Peruvian music at a party on Puerto Rican day. In Slovenia, home to Lawrence Welk’s forebears, I did the Bosom Polka with a real live polka band on national television. (On the same show—Slovenia’s version of the David Letterman Show—my girlfriend Kimberley Silver and I performed Slovenia’s first televised lesbian kiss.) Today someone told me that I have low self-esteem. I was amazed. They told me that the reason I take self-portraits and post them on the internet must be because I think very low of my self and need others to tell me how beautiful I am. This in itself was a little upsetting if only because I thought the person who said it, knew me better than that. But then I realized, that this might be what most people think of what I do.
I'm easy to lose in a crowd, if you ever saw me in real life, you probably wouldn't recognize me. The woman I show you in my photos, in only a small fraction of the woman I am. You could pass me on the street and never know that everyday you look at my photos online. My photos are honest, yes, but not everything. I don't take them to define me, or to be beautiful. I take them for two reasons: to help myself better understand the ways in which I feel, and react to what's happening in my life and to try to create something that the viewer, you, can relate to and have a reaction to. I post my photos to the internet so that I can have a dialogue about my life and share with those who share with me. And also as a type of record of what goes on in my head. I frequently go back through my Flickr stream and remember what I was going through during a certain month, or I can look at a photo and know what I was feeling on that certain day.
Taking self-portraits for me is so much more than a practice in vanity. And posting them online is so much more than a self-serving search for praise. If no one, not a single person commented on my photos, so what? I wouldn't stop taking them. But because you do comment, I grow more, I learn more, I appreciate more, I experience more - both as a photographer and as a person.
Oh my god, to say I have low self-esteem...that is just beyond me. Once, I had a boyfriend who told me that his favourite thing about me was how humble I was. But I think I may have lost that somewhere along the way, hahaha. But low self-esteem? Hm. Mind you, we aren't really seeing eye-to-eye on things, no matter what it's about lately. But I found it hard to explain to him why I do what I do, and I found it hard to argue with him about something he thought he had so right. As if it was some big revelation to me, "Katie I hate to tell you, but you have low self-esteem." How do I argue something that someone thinks is a dark secret revealed?

Selfportrait.map by Bill Outcault and Lilla Locurto, explores the process of unfolding and creating 2-dimensional projections of the 3rd dimension using full body scanning technology which collects a complete image maps of their full bodies along with thousands of associated Cartesian coordinate points. In an animation and a series of images, the fragments of the scanned bodies become gestural strokes, arranged and distorted through their own cartography software.

O ponto de vista de um verme na terra que, entre as ervas, observa a chegada de homens e mulheres que se comportam com a simplicidade americana, mas que podem, de um momento para o outro, atravessar paredes, pode ser a perspectiva ou focalização aspirante mais adequada para entrar no mundo de David Lynch.

O cineasta está, neste momento, a ocupar Paris: “The air is on fire” é o nome da exposição patente na Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. Consagrada “às múltiplas facetas da sua obra plástica”, a Galerie du Jour, de Agnès B., apresentou fotogramas seleccionados do novo filme de David Lynch, “Inland Empire”, que está ainda em exibição nas salas francesas.

Os cineastas entraram definitivamente no museu.

Desta vez e após “Voyages en Utopie(s)” de Jean-Luc Godard, no Centre National Georges Pompidou, a Fondation Cartier apresenta a obra plástica de David Lynch, no seguimento da exposição “L’île et elle” de Agnès Varda (2006).

A exposição não está ligada ao filme, ou a personagens ou factos irreais, salvo por pura coincidência. No entanto, apresenta uma magnífica banda sonora, igualmente narcótica; no entanto, um décor de sala de estar é a instalação mais surpreendente; no entanto, um pequeno cinema ocupa a área central da cave da fundação; no entanto, as telas estão instaladas como os telões de um cenário: no entanto, o néon que anuncia e dá nome à exposição é um convite a entrar no seu universo, tal como “Fire walk with me” nos atraiu para a sempre viva, e sempre morta, Laura Palmer, de “Twin Peaks” (1992).

A grande sala à esquerda da entrada da Fundação apresenta as telas mais significativas de David Lynch: uma série dedicada ao personagem Bob e à sua aprendizagem (num mundo que não compreende) evidencia as inúmeras influências presentes na técnica mista utilizada pelo artista: desde as cores primárias e abertas da casa dos Simpson’s ao estilo de intervenção urbana de Basquiat, com obras onde a inserção de vestuário e colagem de fotografias se misturam num tornado de energia em que personagens sexuados vivem como principais sujeitos figurativos.

É de salientar a série de fotografias que pode ser vista no andar inferior que evidencia a mestria do cineasta no plano da imagem argêntica.

As temáticas exploradas são o nu feminino e a paisagem industrial.

O discreto corredor que leva às casas de banho, atapetado para a ocasião de alcatifa vermelha, é também intervencionado pelo artista com os famosos “Fish kits” ou “Chicken kits”, concebidos por Lynch, nos anos 7O, durante as filmagens, como kits de montagem de maquetes de aviões, mas transformados em kits de animais esquartejados com as instruções para os recompor de novo.

Todas as obras são expostas sem qualquer tabela que indique a sua cronologia, por expressa vontade do autor.

A série “Distorted Nudes” é também apresentada na cave. Fruto da sua primeira experimentação no domínio da tecnologia numérica, é composta por fotomontagens de fotografias eróticas, de 1840 a 1940, da colecção de Uwe Scheid.

David Lynch é um grande cineasta.

A sua obra plástica não é comparável aos seus filmes, mas reflecte todo um trabalho criativo “satelitar” em relação à sua obra cinematográfica.

A cenografia da exposição, assinada pelo autor, é a prova da ocupação dos espaços e funciona como um enorme set cinematográfico, alterando o percurso habitual das mostras na fundação (excepção feita à exposição “Ce qui arrive” de Paul Virilio, 2000).

Todo o espaço da exposição é uma visita à cabeça de Lynch, um percurso num fairy ground perverso e “voyeurístico” dentro do bom esquema do multiparque de diversões americano. Na livraria, verificamos que o artista não foge ao sistema económico hollywoodiano: vendem-se t-shirts e embalagens de café orgânico autografadas pelo cineasta.

Mas na exposição, como em todos os seus filmes, há sempre um qualquer perigo iminente que nos atrai inconscientemente como num sonho.

Mesmo em filmes apaziaguadores como “Straight Story” (1999), a minha experiência é sempre perturbada pela irrealidade das situações: estava a assistir à estreia desse filme num festival, numa ilha perdida da Croácia, quando o relâmpago do filme se uniu ao raio que desencadeou uma tempestade, a qual varreu todos os espectadores da sessão ao ar livre; no edifício da Fondation Cartier, o néon da entrada e os cabos eléctricos, que displicentemente corriam entre as obras e o exterior separado pela estrutura de vidro do edifício, pareciam uma armadilha electrocutante, devido à chuva torrencial no dia da minha visita à exposição… Há sempre um convite entre as linhas perfuradas de um disco em vinil para entrarmos como súbditos no império de David Lynch.

"an image that actually takes a bit of thought to interpret. i don't care if you don't like it or anything. it's still got some sort of meaning behind it that, although not immediately obvious, can put the viewer into an uncertain position. (is the image for or against fur, etc). it is meant to be intangible while the obvious props and presentation (shaved head, skinned embraced rabbit, fur gloves, etc) are supposed to lead to an inconclusive state.

instead of putting on make up, having my head photo-shopped nice and smooth, and perfecting any imperfections, and throwing on some sexy outfit, we decided to do this image.

During the wedding reception, Cleopatra, although openly romantic with Hercules, is accepted by the freaks, but is revolted and mocks them. The freaks decide that they no longer need Hercules in their carnival and have a new career for Cleopatra all lined up, and make sure she doesn't "chicken" out.
This film was banned for 30 years. And is still banned in Sweden, Finland and Ireland.

The footage continues Jarman's tradition of film-making found in his features - fascination with the male body, nature, landscapes, cityscapes, close up of detail, personal expression and camera experimentation. A fascinating film for anyone interested in the life of this great filmmaker.

Description: Jean Cocteau's "the Blood of a Poet" is a very strange film. Even by todays standards, but I can't imagine the response in 1930. The film was funded by the same producer of Bunuel/Dali's "L Age D Or"(1930). Cocteau considered the film expressionism even though it feels like surrealism. His goal was to film a poem. In the beginning of the film we witness a chimney collapse. Then we are introduced to an artist. He is doing a sketch and erases the mouth. The mouth appears on his hand and starts to talk. Then when his hand touches the statue, it comes to life. He enters the mirror and it takes him to a strange hotel, behind each door is something bizarre happening. One room a boy is trying to fly, another room there's a strange man with a spiral. Then the artist goes crazy and shoots himself. Then the film goes on to a dreamlike violent snowball fight and game of cards, and another suicide attempt. Very unique, highly surreal with slight homo-erotic overtones; "The Blood of a Poet" feels like waking up from a crazy dream!

Surprisingly good Cat III thriller that is probably the only rape-for-revenge flick I have ever seen. It is also the only film I have seen with a rapist/poisoner. Actually, this little gem from director Chin Fruit (haha!--think up your own gay joke!) is very clever and even witty at times. Good stuff all around.
Min is a shy loser who is picked on and pushed around. When his gramps dies, Min inherits his traditional medicine store along with all of the old man's secrets. This now makes it possible for the lad to A) get some ass and B) get revenge on a couple who have belittled and mistreated him.
Without giving too much away, I was impressed by this very original OTT Cat III joint and it is one of my new favorites for the genre. Recommended highly--8.5/10.

Description: First of all , you should watch this only if you don\'t mind the lack of subtitles , pornography , minimalistic plot , kinky sex and utter , horrifying and truly shocking depravity . I mentioned kinky sex , but to call sex in the second half of the movie \" kinky \" would be a great understatement . It\'s more like a punch in the face if you aren\'t prepared for this sort of sickness .
The plot seems to be fairly basic , almost nonexistent : a girl is hired to perform in amateur porn movie . Don\'t expect much in first 30 - 40 minutes . There is some dialog - if you don\'t speak Japanese it\'s not going to mean much to you - that seems to be an occasional chatting between the girl and the crew & performer , then there is some censored porn ( straight sex ) , and after the scene is finished the performers and the crew take a break . And then ... it starts to happen ...
I won\'t go into details here , but I\'ll say this : Niku Daruma is , without a doubt , one of the most disturbing movies ever made . Suitable mainly for hard core fans of pseudo - snuff genre . SFX are great , gore looks very real . And there is more than enough of it .
What makes it kind of surreal is a bizarre , completely twisted finale that has to be seen to be beleived . That , and eerie , realistic and grim atmosphere that adds to the effect . If you could stomach August Underground , you will survive Niku Daruma . If not , don\'t even bother , it will just make you sick .

A curio, to be sure, but the more polished "Trash", made two years later, is a definite step forward. I suggest you watch that instead.

Blow up was certainly Antonioni’s most commercial and probably his best film, he went on to make Zabriskie Point (1970), which is also rightly, considered a classic of the period. The storyline is slight not really a mystery if anything more of a psychological drama but in the end the importance of the murder plot is superficial the really important aspect of the film is the visual style and sound Antonioni employs. Style over substance? YES but that’s the point Antonioni was making. For anyone seriously into films or with even a passing interest in the 60’s culture this is essential viewing. It is also a great record of 60’s London. The film went on to win the Palm d’Or at Cannes.

Eraserhead (1977)
Description: Is it a nightmare or an actual view of a post-apocalyptic world? Set in an industrial town in which giant machines are constantly working, spewing smoke, and making noise that is inescapable, Henry Spencer lives in a building that, like all the others, appears to be abandoned. The lights flicker on and off, he has bowls of water in his dresser drawers, and for his only diversion he watches and listens to the Lady in the Radiator sing about finding happiness in heaven. Henry has a girlfriend, Mary X, who has frequent spastic fits. Mary gives birth to Henry's child, a frightening looking mutant, which leads to the injection of all sorts of sexual imagery into the depressive and chaotic mix.

Jack Smith's 1963 short Flaming Creatures might be one of the most sexual perverse film ever made. It has ever amount of sexual deviance that made up the New York underground in the 1960's- transexuals, S&M, lines such as "do they make a lipstick that doesn't come off when you s*** c****?", drug use, and a radically innovative orgy scene that plays more like a Greek tragedy than a work of pornography. On the surface, Flaming Creatures appears to be art at its lowest, but a closer examination of the film proves that Flaming Creatures is not only high art, but a siminal piece of film in the cannon of The New American Cinema. Filmed on top of Smith's New York studio on a basic 16mm camera, Flaming Creatures embodies the true independent spirit of The New American Cinema. The orgy scene in the film is perhaps the greatest combination of art and film. The "creatures", as Smith puts them, engage in a rape-orgy scene of sailors and a transexual. The orgy plays like a tragic meeting the old America with the freshly birthed new morality in America. What is even more remarkable is the "earthquake", caused Smith's shaking camera at the end of the orgy. It as if the world is opening up on Smith's creatures and swallowing them and all their perversions. No one can deny that Flaming Creatures is a difficult film to watch- both in its content and deep artistic meanings, but the spirit of the film is the reason it should be preserved for generations to come.

Grigori Galitsin is a world-renowned photographer from Volgograd, Russia. His work has appeared on numerous websites and magazines for many years and it is universally respected as pure, pristine, and sensuous. Coming on a like a mixture of Little House on the Prairie and The Devil in Miss Jones, this film concerns the (mis)adventures of a god-fearing family who happen to live on the edge of a wood filled with Satanists (and a horny Devil). Ma and Pa (Zebedy Colt ?) live a hillbilly existence with their two daughters Hope (Nancy Dare ?) and Faith (Terri Hall ?), who both have the hots for the rather dim young Gardener, Joseph. Dad being the religious type, he doesn't approve of Hope kissing Joseph and so promptly strips her down and beats her. Meanwhile, seeing that Joseph has chosen Hope, Faith takes the hump and offers to sell her soul to the devil if Joseph were hers. Now, it is at this point that the Devil appears to take her up on the deal, predictably fucking her over in the process :) After a short visit to the local Witch, Faith finds herself in possession of a Love potion (containing semen, naturally). This being the Devils work, all the potion actually does is fool her into thinking that the Devil is Joseph. In the standout (non-kinky) scene of the movie, The Devil gives Faith a good pounding from behind, while she backs into him at faster and faster intervals, before a pop shot between her cheeks.

In all porn films, the ejaculation of semen is ritualised. This film takes it a stage further and gives semen magical powers to the point where the Devil uses it to shape-change. Thus empowered, he goes on a doppelganger's rampage: as Joseph he coerces and rapes the besotted Hope. As Hope he/she aggressively fucks Joseph. To top it all off, he changes into Faith's Pa and fuck's her (very acrobatically for an old man), while his Satanic followers prepare an orgy in his honour.....this gets the back up of the real Ma, Pa and Joseph (presumably because they're missing out) and so they resolve to rescue Faith and Hope from the clutches of the Satanists.....

This film may be quite hard to find nowadays as it contains religion, S/M, coercion/rape, and a rather graphic pissing scene at the orgy (3 guys on Annie Sprinkle)
The film is otherwise a well plotted low budget roughie....all the scenes are outdoors, and have a decent build up for those fans of porn with a story. The on-screen Devil's make up is particularly good, and he makes for a rather sinister fellow, lurking around in the darkest parts of the woods with a black cape and staring eyes.

Do not forget:
1. This movie is old.
2. The studio that released it did a HORRIBLE transfer to DVD.
3. The Studios source was most likely a copy of a copy of a VHS tape.
Essentially I polished a turd. I made the best of a bad situation, and here it is, in all it's glory, for you to see.

A parody of the serial _Flash Gordon (1936/I) _ with a strong sexual campy flavor. Not only is there nudity any time there is any excuse for it, but many of the scenes are staged as closely as possible to the old serial shots. Jamie Gillis. Gillis brings her back to his gothic castle, where he puts her through a series of sexually charged trials in order to prove her love. Terri Hall is perfect in the role, with a wide eyed and expressive face that registers the proper amount of shock and sizzle as she's led into Gillis misogynistic and depraved world.
As Terri is led further and further into Gillis' wanton web, she experiences lust and pleasure as she never has before. Whether at the hands of an unknown man, in a romantic rendezvous with Gillis' bisexual manservant Zebedy Colt, or engaged in a bondage laced tryst with Gillis himself, Terri Hall finds herself in the throes
of a sensual spell from which there is no escape. While the film can be a bit rough at times, there's no denying the care and passion that went into its making. All of the actors are superb, the sets are magnificently atmospheric, and the plot contains its fair share of twists and turns. A great pick for anyone into B & D style sex or male-dominant mayhem.

A man fires up a propane torch. He sends its flame up tubes of metal. The raging heat produces resonant, ringing tones in a harmony of pure sound . Sonny Gale is a scavenger, outlaw and fire artist. He lives stealthily, in an abandoned factory at the edge of town, waiting for someone who never arrives. Into his life comes Emma.

Emma is at a crossroads, through with high school, not yet off to college. She is the strong one in her family, trying like many kids to keep her family together. Her mother, a folk singer, suffers from depression. Her father, a state legislator, seems more interested in a colleague than in his wife. Her best friend Lara, is a wild, fiery girl. She is the hot head to Emma's cool one. With their friends, they go to a party on the outskirts of town. The party is busted by the police. And then Lara leaves Emma's life forever.

Emma's life starts to unravel. To her father's dismay, she takes refuge with
Sonny, and helps him build a mysterious Fire Organ. Played at night, with fires
burning and pipes glowing, it produces haunting sounds that thrill and enchant.
Sonny makes music soar from the fiery pipes and leads Emma on a journey to
confront her feelings of grief and loss.

But to adults, fire is dangerous and Sonny has a history with the mental health
folks. A confrontation with the police sends Sonny over the deep end. Emma finds
a way to calm him and guide him back from the edge of madness. Meanwhile, the
authorities have other plans for Sonny. Emma feels betrayed by the adults she
once respected. She visits Sonny one last time and then takes control of her own
destiny.

If you haven't already read about this, Ashley X is a 9 year old girl who had multiple medical treatments at the age of 6 to stunt her growth. She was born with a severe brain impairment known as static encephalopathy which prevents her from eating, walking, or basically having any cognitive or motor skills beyond an infant of three months. The medical treatments to keep her young (which include removing her uterus, breasts, and increasing her oestrogen) were done to keep her the size of a child and prevent the inconveniences of gorwing into an adult. It's a pretty complicated issue, and although the treatment happened 3 years ago it didn't become public until just recently. In response to critics, the father wrote a 9000 word entry on their blog.
